This was a proof of concept for a bird masked out of a photograph plus a background painted in gouache. I felt that it was a success despite the fact that my painting skills were relatively undeveloped.

This is a snowy egret and the background has been painted in acrylics. By this time I had much better painting skills. Compared to the first mixed composite, this background deviated more from the reference image.
